JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi's congressional delegation is urging President Donald Trump to make a quick decision on a request for federal aid for flood and storm damaged areas.

The FEMA request said 43 of the state's 83 counties were impacted by the tornadoes and flooding in late February.

Preliminary figures showed more than 13,000 homes were damaged or destroyed,126 businesses suffered damage and 839 roads were weakened or washed out by flood waters

The numbers are expected to climb because 15 counties have not completed damage assessments.

H.R. 1590 enhances the United States government's ability to respond to terrorism by instructing the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and conduct a preparedness exercise related to the detection and prevention of terrorist and foreign fighter travel.
