Washington, D.C. – Today in a Committee on Homeland Security hearing, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) responded to claims that the Department of Homeland Security should be abolished.

In the hearing, Congressman Guest listed the important agencies that protect American citizens under the Department of Homeland Security, including the Coast Guard, FEMA, Secret Service, and TSA. "I believe that if these agencies that I just spoke of, if these agencies were abolished, our country would be substantially less safe."

The members of the panel unanimously agreed that it would be irresponsible to talk about abolishing the Department of Homeland Security.

The members of the panel included Mr. John Wagner, Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Mr. Austin Gould, Assistant Administrator, Requirements and Capabilities Analysis, Transportation Security Administration; Mr. Joseph R. DiPietro, Chief Technology Officer, United States Secret Service.
