Congressman Guest Votes Against Highly Politicized NDAA

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) voted against H.R. 2500, the House of Representatives' version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020, which passed the House on a 220-197 vote. The United States Senate passed its own version of the NDAA, which differed significantly from the House bill, on a vote of 86-8. The Democrat Majority's House version has been criticized for reducing funding to military personnel, cutting programs meant to deter Chinese and Russian meddling in U.S. interests, and hindering the ability of the Administration to respond to increased Iranian aggression.

Congressman Guest promised not to vote for any bill that politicizes support for the United States military. "I will not vote for a bill that puts politics over the well-being of our troops and the safety of our nation," Guest said. "As the situation in Iran continues to intensify and China and Russia's influence grows, it's more important than ever to ensure that we have a military that is prepared to respond to foreign threats. As your Congressman, I will continue to support our men and women in uniform and be a voice for a strong and united American defense force."
