Guest Points to Record to Debunk Liberal Spending Plan

Washington, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) released a video outlining his opposition to the Build Back Better (BBB) Act. Congressman Guest intends to vote against the bill when it comes to the floor, which could happen as early as tonight.

In the video, he cites previous instances Republicans have accurately predicted the negative impacts of Progressive policies before or shortly after they were implemented. He uses the Republican record on correctly predicting the fallout of liberal bills to boost the credibility of the Republican arguments against the BBB.

First, he references President Biden’s decision to repeal the Migrant Protection Protocols and promote catch-and-release policies, which led to higher rates of illegal immigration.

“We stood on the house floor in February, warning that the radical policies imposed by the Biden Administration would create a border crisis. Nine months later, we are still reeling from the border crisis the President created with his executive orders that ended important border security programs,” Guest says in his speech.

He then calls attention to the warnings in early 2021 from across the political spectrum, including cautions from President Obama’s administration, that the American Rescue Plan was unnecessary to combat COVID-19 and would cause inflation to skyrocket.

“We stood on the house floor in March, warning that using the American Rescue Plan as an excuse to fund liberal priorities would do nothing to combat COVID-19, and the increased spending would drive up inflation. Just last month, we hit a 40-year record on inflation that was caused by Democrat spending,” Guest says.

Guest notes that some of the Republican concern with the BBB is already being confirmed, such as the Republican observation that much of the taxes will fall on the middle class. Research from the Tax Policy Center shows that about 30% of middle-income homes would pay more in taxes under the BBB, despite claims from the President of the United States that, “anybody making less than $400,000 a year will not pay a single penny in taxes.”

Guest lists other Republicans concerns, such as mass amnesty for illegal immigrants, higher levels of inflation, creating a welfare without work system, and taxpayer funded abortions. 

Guest sums up his argument simply, “We have been right over and over again about the terrible consequences of Progressive policies. We are right about the Build Back Better plan.”

Since February, my Democratic colleagues have pursued a radical agenda, and their Progressive policies have created a new crisis each month.

And each month, Republicans have stood on the floor and warned over and over that if Democrats continue to push their agenda, the consequences will continue to stack up and fall on the middle class.

We stood on the house floor in February, warning that the radical policies imposed by the Biden Administration would create a border crisis.

Nine months later, we are still reeling from the border crisis the President created with his executive orders that ended important border security programs.

We stood on the house floor in March, warning that using the American Rescue Plan as an excuse to fund liberal priorities would do nothing to combat COVID-19, and the increased spending would drive up inflation.

Just last month, we hit a 40-year record on inflation that was caused by Democrat spending.

We stood on the House floor and warned that, by ending the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, thousands of Americans would lose their jobs and gas prices would skyrocket.

Today, many of those Americans employed by the pipeline are still out of work and gas prices have increased over 60 percent since last year.

Issue after issue, Republicans were proven to be right, but our colleagues across the aisle failed to listen, and the American people are paying the price. 

Now we are warning about this huge liberal spending bill, President Biden’s Build Back Better Plan.

For months, Republicans have warned that the taxes would fall on middle income Americans.

Last week, even the left-leaning Tax Policy Center released analysis showing that this legislation would increase taxes for upwards of 30 percent of middle-class Americans.

Republicans warned that this bill would not pay for itself, and we have now learned that President Biden’s plan will not generate enough revenue to cover the cost of these expensive programs. Instead, it will pay 87,000 new IRS agents to spy on American bank accounts.

This bill will give mass amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants and make the border crisis worse, it will cause inflation to skyrocket to unsustainable levels, it will make our labor crisis worse by creating a welfare without work system, and it will strip pro-life provisions that have protected unborn life for decades.

We have been right over and over again about the terrible consequences of Progressive policies.

We are right about the Build Back Better plan.
