Guest, Kustoff Call for Action to Address Crime
Washington, D.C. – This week, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) joined Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) in a resolution calling on President Biden to work with Congress to address the rise in crime seen across the United States.
“The rate of crime in the United States has risen to unprecedented levels. Criminals are emboldened by the leniency of liberal prosecutors in large cities across the nation and are acting with disregard to the law because they no longer believe that any repercussions for breaking the law exist,” Rep.Guest said. “It’s the duty of Congress and the President to reinstate law and order where it has broken down in our cities, and President Biden must join Congress in our efforts to reestablish a justice system that protects innocent citizens by prosecuting criminals.”
“Violent crime continues to drastically increase in every major city nationwide. My Republican colleagues and I are committed to providing solutions that will keep dangerous criminals off our streets and out of our communities.” said Rep. Kustoff. “This commonsense resolution identifies urgent issues that need to be addressed for the sake of public safety, as well as sends a strong message to our brave law enforcement that we are focused on upholding the rule of law. I thank my House and Senate colleagues for joining me in introducing this critical and timely resolution.”
The resolution cites progressive prosecutors, certain bail reform policies, and increased cartel and drug activity in the United States due to the southern border crisis as causes of the high rates of crime seen across the United States.
The legislation calls on the President of the United States to work with Congress to curb the crime crisis by "reinforcing strong criminal justice policies, by laying blame on the perpetrators of violent crime, and by securing the southern border.”
