Congressman Guest Joins Effort to Protect Women’s Sports
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) has cosponsored H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 — legislation that defines sex as “a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth” when determining compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The legislation was introduced by Congressman Greg Steube (FL-17).
“For 50 years, young women have benefitted from the opportunity to compete equally in sports under the protections of Title IX — learning valuable lessons about hard work, teamwork, and commitment. Today, we are fighting for the long-standing traditions of women’s sports so that future generations can enjoy the many opportunities they offer,” Congressman Guest said. “It’s a sad reality that the woke Left values the basic rights of women so low that they have pushed for regulations to allow men to compete against women in athletic events. With this bill, we are pushing back against the radical leftist agenda to protect the opportunities afforded to women.”
Congressman Guest has also joined as an original cosponsor of H.Res. 115 introduced by Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) and led by Senator Cindy Hyde Smith (R-MS) in the U.S. Senate. This legislation would establish a Women’s Bill of Rights “to reaffirm legal protections afforded to women under Federal Law.” The resolution details the biological difference between men and women, defines “sex” as a person’s biological sex, and mentions “important reasons to distinguish between the sexes with respect to athletics, prisons, domestic violence shelters, restrooms, and other areas.”
The Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act of 2023 addresses a part of a core pillar of the Republican Commitment to America.
Congressman Michael Guest represents Mississippi's Third Congressional District. Currently serving his third term, Congressman Guest serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Ethics. He is also a member of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Homeland Security.
