Mississippi sends bomb squad, other resources to Louisiana after terror attack

January 2, 2025

JACKSON, Miss. —

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in Mississippi are responding following what is being investigated as a terrorist attack in New Orleans that killed at least 15 people.

The state of Mississippi has already sent resources to Louisiana, including a bomb squad. More could follow.

U.S. Rep. Michael Guest, a Republican from Mississippi, is the vice chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

“It’s troubling. The vehicle did cross the border two days ago,” Guest said.

Guest said response to the incident will focus resources not only on border security, but upcoming large crowd events.

“We must continue to be vigilant,” Guest said. “I know local law enforcement will ramp up what they will do around large crowds. It’s not something we should be afraid of. It is something we should be aware of.”

A parade is planned in Jackson on Jan. 17 to celebrate Jackson State’s football championship. There is also the Dixie National Rodeo and the parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day coming up. According to state law enforcement officials, the intelligence research ramped up dramatically following Wednesday’s French Quarter attack.
