Congressman Guest reads to kids at McLaurin Elementary

 RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – McLaurin Elementary School in Florence celebrated Read Across America Week (March 2-6) with special guest readers Congressman Michael Guest and his wife Haley Guest.

“Reading is not always easy. I remember when I was a kid. It was hard for me to learn how to read,” said Congressman Guest.

The Guests’ encouraged the group of kindergarteners why it’s important to read, but also why their voice matters.

The kindergarteners in Ms. Bynum and Ms. Smith’s class listened so well to the story “One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote” by Bonnie Worth.

In the end, the Guests’ gifted the little scholars with their very own American flag to take home.

“These are the very best days of the job,” said Haley Guest.
