Funding on the way for Archusa lake dam repairs
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Plans are underway in Clarke County now to repair the Archusa Dam.
The dam broke over a year ago, releasing almost all the water in the reservoir overnight.
Archusa Creek Water Park has remained closed in the meantime.
Repair plans and funding are in the works, but Clarke County Supervisor Paul Mosley says these things take time and thanks the public for being patient as they find the best way forward for the repairs.
“We’ve had a lot of folks working on it. We’ve had our Congressman, Congressman [Michael] Guest, in fact he was here last week. He toured the dam. They’ve promised some money in the 2025 budget, but it will be 2025 before we get it. The state has given us two million dollars, should be eligible to get that money in October. At that time, the Pat Harrison Board has said they will get something started on repairing the dam,” said Mosley.
The Archusa lake and dam were originally developed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, before being turned over to the Pat Harrison Board.
